It’s really amazing to tell someone you have a website. Over time, I realise a lot of people don’t even get value from their website. Some people just have a website because everyone is having it or because they are being told they should have one. It’s really okay to feel among those people who have a website or it is very important to have a digital or web presence but the question is, Do I need it right now? What will the website do for me specifically? Do I have an existing client or anticipating users that will explore the website? There are a few other questions that may arise. In fact, one of the question I will love to start asking most of my client henceforth is “What is the plan you have for managing or maintaining the website? Well, for me, I can just take your money and build it but I love it when my clients are making money from their website or getting a very good ROI from their website.
Some people have really thought a website can work on its own, for instance, maybe a website should be driving in sales, some people think a website can fix itself be it updating the plugins or security loopholes. I know you shouldn’t figure everything out from the beginning but there are key important questions that if you have an answer to, you will be more confident on your choice of either having a website now or till later.
The question that may likely follow because you surely need an experienced and honest person recommendation is when should I have this website? The answer is ________, if your answer is NOW, then you should answer the questions I have asked above (in bold) and below (in bullet point).
Below are a few guides to know if having a website is appropriate for you.
- You stand a good chance of getting value from your website if you already have a good fan base from other social media platforms, for instance, if you already have a profiting business on IG or FB, you can easily have a website with a very good number of users who can engage with it. All you have to do is to do a launch campaign and let them know you have a website or you will be having a website very soon, guess what, some people might start sharing ideas of what they expect to see on your website. Remember, you have a web presence, having a web presence is different from having a website. So what’s the difference? From my perspective, I believe once you have a social media account be it Instagram, Facebook Page, or Google my Business setup, or Twitter handle, or YouTube channel, you already have a web presence.
- So, you can have a website when you know you will be dedicated and committed to it. If you can’t, but you have a budget for outsourcing it or hiring someone to do it for you, that will be great.
- You can have it when you know you will create a various funnel in which people will go to the website and take action. Let me give an instance: let’s say you have built an eCommerce website, you have over 30 products and barely 5 people visit your website every month, please how will you feel? Will you ever make any sales from it? But if you have marketing strategies that will drive a crazy amount of people to the website to take action, now that’s fantastic. Therefore, people can easily buy things from the website without you going through that WhatsApp processes. 😊 few will understand. Anyway, most of us still love that WhatsApp process.
- Make sure your website has engaging content, I usually recommend my clients to have a blog section or whatever they want to call it, be it announcement page, or event page or article page, this page make your site dynamic. It makes the users know that there is something always going on with the website once in a while. Here is an example: let’s say you came to my website mralabi.com and you read what I am all about including the services I offer, my pricing, you got my contact details and saved it on your phone. Imagine it without the blog for now. Please what will you come and do on my website next time since you already know all that I do? I think the only thing that may or will bring you back to my website is when you need to book my IT Consultancy Services right. But when I introduced my blog, I noticed more people engaged more with my website by reading all that I have for them apart from my services, this event brings in more clients for me that pay for the services.
I don’t overwhelm people with lots of info, I only drop points and guides that triggers them to think and they should figure things out within themselves, that’s much better for them. I want you to carefully understand the article and know what’s best for you and what works perfectly well for you. Let me just tell you, get to know what works best for you and leverage more on that but trying and exploring other options is also good. Especially if you are the type that likes to scale, try something new and see how it works for you. I love to scale 💯
